The butter in my pocket is melting

In the movie An Inconvenient Truth Al Gore uses a clip from Futurama to illustrate global warming.

That man is my President.

  1. Did you hear that Futurama might be coming back? Go Fry and Leela!

  2. Go Kif and Amy!

The last definitely confirmed official news I've heard was of the cast and crew reuniting to create four feature-length Futurama "movies" that would be released straight to DVD, and that voice recording for same was scheduled to start in July or August. This was announced in January. Apparently, as of last month the script for the first one still hadn't been written.

In March, there were additional hopes raised when Billy West -- the improbably multifaceted voice of Fry, Zoidberg, Farnsworth, Zapp Brannigan, and Richard Nixon -- announced on the web forum at www.billywest.com that he'd just been told the series was returning to broadcast television with new episodes...only to report a few days later that it was a false alarm. People seeing the first announcement but not the retraction might continue to spread talk that this is officially confirmed news.

A recent CNN article refers only to "speculation" that Futurama could return to Fox. The article also incorrectly states that the show is currently "being produced for Cartoon Network's Adult Swim late-night block" when in fact AS can only air the existing episodes, though it's conceivable they might someday air the DVD movies as well. That's not to say that Fox couldn't decide to bring back Futurama...merely that there's nothing to suggest this yet.
