A very short story

When I was ten or eleven -- sometime during the year before my family moved to New York City -- I have a vivid memory of a substitute teacher coming to my class and, in lieu of a lesson, reading us The Laughing Man by J.D. Salinger.

Which, if you know the story, was a profoundly weird thing to do.

  1. Pretty weird indeed. I wonder what his story was. (Not hers, surely?)

Also weird: you told a short story about a teacher who read a short story about a guy who tells a story to a bunch of kids to a bunch of kids to us.

  2. Ah, yes. Farewell to Mr. Salinger. Catcher in the Rye is one of those books I keep meaning to get around to reading, but haven't yet opened.

Interesting tie-in to Hugo's The Man Who Laughs.
